A sweet and savoury dipping sauce with a mild heat from Szechuan pepper, sold in a pot for nuggets, fries and the rest of the order. In the World Menu Heist it's credited to McDonald's China. Szechuan pepper isn't a chilli. It's the dried husk of a prickly ash berry, and its effect is a tingling, slightly numbing sensation on the lips and tongue rather than straight heat. At a mild level in a sweet sauce it shows up as a buzz at the end of each bite more than a burn. The name carries history at McDonald's. A Szechuan dip first ran in 1998 as a promotion for Disney's Mulan, and a reference to it in the cartoon Rick and Morty in 2017 turned it into a cult item, with later short runs drawing queues in the United States. It came to the UK as part of the 2026 World Menu Heist.
The World Menu Heist brings a German rösti burger, Canadian maple chicken, Dutch paprika fries and a sauce made famous by a cartoon. Every item, and when each one goes.
