Garlic Bread

What is it?

Portuguese-style bread is split, spread with garlic butter, and toasted until the edges turn crisp. Inside, it stays soft and a little airy, with the garlic running through the butter rather than sitting on top in raw chunks. At Nando's, it sits alongside chips, rice, and corn as one of the chain's bread-based sides, served warm and usually in two halves. It works best eaten straight away, while the butter is still melted into the crumb, because the bread firms up quickly as it cools. Compared with what you'd get at a pizza chain, this version leans more toward a crusty roll format than a baguette or flatbread. It's one of the more popular sides for mopping up sauce from a main dish.
