Ten king prawns come coated in a light tempura batter, sold frozen for cooking from chilled or straight from the freezer, depending on the pack instructions. Batter sits thin and airy rather than heavy, so you still get the shape of the prawn underneath. Co-op also sells other frozen seafood and snack items, but this one is simply prawns in tempura, with no sauce or extra coating. Once cooked, the shell turns golden and crisp while the prawn inside stays tender. Serve them with sweet chilli dipping sauce or soy, and eat them hot for the best texture. They work as a starter, a party snack, or alongside rice and stir-fried vegetables.
