Lamb Moussaka

What is it?

Layers of lamb ragù sit with roast aubergines and tender potatoes, all under a creamy béchamel sauce. Sold as a frozen meal, it’s the sort of layered bake that goes from freezer to oven and comes out in one dish, with the pasta-free structure doing the work instead. Sainsbury’s uses lamb, aubergine and potato here, which puts it closer to a moussaka than to the brand’s lasagne-style ready meals. Heat it from frozen or chilled, depending on the pack instructions, and the top should brown while the sauce stays soft in the centre.
