What is it?

The groove is the design. Four fingers joined by a chocolate base thin enough to snap along, which makes this one of the very few bars that says how it should be divided before it's opened. Inside, the wafer is layered with a chocolate cream filling, and the filling is made partly from reworked KitKat, so the bar contains a certain amount of previous bar. That's a genuine part of the process rather than a curiosity. It launched from York in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp and took the Kit Kat name in 1937. The break line came first and the advertising line, which arrived in 1958, was written to fit a product that already worked that way.
