Coles' standard choc chip tub, from the plain own-brand line rather than the Irresistible label. Milk, cream, sugar and vanilla in the base, with small chips folded through it. The chips are distributed rather than layered or swirled, which is the simplest way to build this flavour and the most forgiving. A swirl has to be dosed evenly through a tub as it fills, where loose chips only need mixing. Chip size does the rest. Small ones stay firm enough to register as crunch and then soften on the tongue rather than staying waxy, which is the balance any choc chip ice cream is trying to strike.
