Café Grande is the most complicated tub Connoisseur makes, and the Grand Marnier is what sets it apart from every other coffee ice cream in the freezer. The orange liqueur turns up as an extract at 0.7%, with reconstituted orange juice alongside it in the swirl. The coffee is a blend of Arabica and Robusta at 1%. Robusta is the harsher of the two beans and carries more caffeine, so blending it in gives a stronger, more bitter coffee note than Arabica alone would, which it needs in order to stand up against the orange. Chocolate-coated almonds at 4% provide the crunch, and cream sits at 27%. Coffee, orange and almond is a combination borrowed from continental patisserie rather than from ice cream, which is probably why it reads as unusual in a supermarket freezer.
