The Cornetto's defining feature is the chocolate lining inside the cone, and it's there for engineering reasons rather than flavour. A wafer in direct contact with ice cream goes soft within hours, where a chocolate barrier between them keeps it crisp for weeks. That single idea is why the format exists at all. Everything else follows from it: the chocolate tip plugging the base, the chocolate over the top, the swirl of vanilla in between. Classico is the original of the range and the plainest. With the vanilla kept simple, the cone and the chocolate do most of the work, which is a fair description of what a Cornetto is.
