Dark chocolate chips rather than milk, which is the correct pairing and not just a variation. Mint is sharp and clean with very little body of its own, and milk chocolate's sweetness blunts it where dark chocolate's bitterness sharpens it. Menthol also produces a genuine cooling sensation independent of temperature, triggering the same receptors that detect cold. In something already frozen that effect compounds, which is a fair part of why mint has stayed a standard freezer flavour rather than a passing one. Chips hold their shape in the cold where a sauce would soften, so they're the only firm element in the tub.
