The first ice cream named for a rock legend, suggested anonymously by a Grateful Dead fan in 1987 and cleared with Jerry Garcia himself. The Grateful Dead connection has outlasted a fair amount of the band's own catalogue. What's in the tub is cherry ice cream with cherries and fudge flakes, and the flakes are the part that makes it work. Cherry and chocolate is an old pairing, but a flake is thin enough to shatter instead of chewing, so it interrupts the fruit without competing with it. The fudge flakes are the part that separates it from a plain cherry pint.
