Graham cracker swirls are the unusual element and the one that dates this to American baking rather than anywhere else. A graham cracker is sweeter and more cinnamon-scented than a digestive, and as a swirl it brings the flavor of a pie crust without any of the crunch. Blonde brownies are made without cocoa, so they carry the density and the chew and leave the chocolate out. In a peanut butter pint that matters: chocolate would take over, and a blondie doesn't. Mini peanut butter cups go into the caramel-swirled topping. Sitting at the surface rather than buried in the base is what keeps them intact.
