The base is sweetened cream rather than anything flavored, so the raisins are the whole event. Soaking them does more than carry rum. A dry raisin freezes into a hard pellet, while one that's taken up liquid stays soft, because what it has absorbed lowers its own freezing point the same way alcohol lowers a mix. It's an openly adult flavor in a category that mostly isn't, which is rarer in an American freezer than it used to be. The raisins are Californian, which is one of the handful of origin claims Häagen-Dazs makes anywhere in the range. Most of the tubs name no source at all.
