Sweet, mildly spiced, and served in a small squeeze cup, this dipping sauce was built for Chicken McNuggets and other fried fast food. It first appeared in 1998 as a tie-in for Disney's Mulan, then returned in later limited releases after a new wave of demand. The flavor sits somewhere between teriyaki and plum sauce, with soy, vinegar, sugar, garlic, and chili-style heat doing most of the work. Compared with McDonald's ketchup or barbecue sauce, it's thinner and more savory, with a little more spice and less smoke. In the McDonald's lineup, it's one of the occasional promotional sauces rather than a permanent item.
