Ham, melted cheese and tomato slices are pressed between two pieces of toasted bread until the outside goes golden and the cheese turns molten. It’s a plain café-style toastie, built from salty ham, stretchy cheese and fresh tomato, with the bread flattened into a thin, crisp-edged sandwich. Compared with the rest of McCafé’s toastie range, it’s the classic, stripped-back version. There’s no sauce or extra filling, just the usual bread, ham, cheese and tomato combo, cooked hot so the cheese softens and the tomato gives off a bit of juice.
