Launched in Australia in 2020, this burger pairs a plant-based patty with lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheese and mayo on a sesame seed bun. It was McDonald’s first meat-free burger here, built to sit alongside the usual beef range rather than replace it. The patty was meant to stand in for beef without using any meat, though it had its own texture and a milder flavour. Compared with later McDonald’s plant-based tests, it’s a simpler, more straightforward build, and it was pulled from the menu in 2021.
