Fries topped with thick white Gruyere fondue and diced Applewood smoked bacon, these loaded fries sit a little apart from the usual fast-food cheese sauce pile. Wendy’s paired them with the Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger in 2015 and 2016, and the cheese here was meant to be a true fondue, not a neon nacho drizzle. Under the topping, you still get standard crispy fries, so the texture runs from crunchy edges to soft potato, then into the creamy cheese. Like other Wendy’s limited-time bacon-and-cheese items, they lean on salt, smoke, and dairy, but the Gruyere gives them a different flavor shape.
